Major US companies include AT&T, Spectrum, Comcast, and Verizon Communications; major international wireline carriers include BT Group (the UK), China Telecom, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (Japan), and Orange (France).

    The global wired telecommunications services industry comprises about 970 million fixed telephone subscriptions and nearly 920 million fixed broadband internet subscriptions, according to the International Telecommunication Union. China has the most fixed telephone lines (194 million), followed by the US (120 million), Japan (64 million), Germany (44 million), and Brazil (41 million).

    The US wired telecommunications services industry includes about 30,300 establishments (single-location companies and units of multi-location companies) with combined annual revenue of more than $321 billion.

    COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

    Demand is driven by new services and growth in business activity. The profitability of individual companies depends on efficient operations and effective marketing.
